The story of the Blackstone Emporium began with Benjamin Franklin Winn Sr. The old phrase, "gift of gab" may have been written with him in mind as he never met a person with whom he could not easily converse. He began selling furniture in the late 1940s with his older brothers beginning a long and successful career in sales. After decades of selling furniture and later Chrysler automobiles Franklin decided it was time to be his own boss and start a business. He teamed up with his son Frankie and the two opened Blackstone Emporium in January of 1980.
Franklin and Frankie dedicated themselves to working hard and making a store in which they could be proud. Starting with a small building heated from a potbelly stove, they slowly expanded and added more inventory. Beth Winn, Frankie’s wife, joined the business in 1988 and soon became an integral part of the growing team. They achieved this by putting their customers first and never being pushy. The idea was simply listen to the customer and provide them what they want for a fair price. Simple plans usually work best and over 35 years later Blackstone Emporium has grown but the core ideals remain the same.
Franklin passed away in 2004, but Frankie and Beth are keeping the dream that is Blackstone Emporium alive. They were joined in 2013 by their son Benjamin adding another generation to the ranks.
